Origins of Coffee

Origins

There are many stories and legends associated with the discovery of coffee, created by people in order to explain in simple words the existence of this “magic” drink.

One of the most well-known, if not the most famous is that of Kaldi, an Abyssinian shepherd. According to popular legend, Kaldi brought his goats to pasture and noticed that they behaved very strangely after consuming the bright red berries from a certain bush. Trying these fruits, he found himself full of energy. Intrigued by what was happening, he took some of these berries and leaves to a nearby monastery where the monks cooked the fruits. They prepared a decoction and after drinking it, noted that it kept them awake also during the prayer vigils. The magic beverage quickly became their favorite drink in order to stay awake longer to pray all night.

The first Coffee plant:

History confirms that the first coffee plants were found in Ethiopia around the 9th century and then expanded to Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula where the recipe slowly evolved. Then the journey of coffee around the world began. From the Middle East, coffee spread to Italy introduced to the wealthy by the Venetian merchants. Dutch traders brought the seeds to their different colonies in Asia and coffee also found his way to the Americas. Today, the taste characteristics of coffee are not only dependent on growing regions but also in processing, and can be distinguished by the differences in flavor, aroma, body and acidity.

Top 10 Coffee consuming countries:

Muslims like me or us nowadays are not that much connected to Allah, so I think we should surround us with good posts and good people just for inspiration, and in hope to become like them one day. InshaAllah.

Shaykh Maher (imam of al Haram: Makkah) gives some very practical advice here:
He says:

Ideas for the last ten days of Ramadan  :

1. Give 1 dinar in charity every night, so if it falls on laylatul qadr it’s as if u gave charity everyday for 84 years.
2. Pray two ra’kaat every night, so if it falls on laylatul qadr it’s as if u prayed everyday for 84 years.
3. Read Surah ikhlaas three times a night, so if it falls on laylatul qadr it’s as if u read the whole Quran everyday for 84 years.

He then says spread this as you may find it on your account [of good deeds].

May Allah make us all VICTORIOUS!

“Withering Petals Of the Flowers “

image

A poem written by my Late friend Sumbal jan on Peshawar Massacre 16 dec 2014 😦

Withering Petals Of the Flowers “

Life was full of elation with boundless happiness;
Life was full of hopes with the brightest smiles and shinning eyes
Life was full of everlasting dreams with vast ambitions

Than most evil of the luck happened one day
Those Brightest smiles converted into helpless cries
Those shinning eyes were pulled out viciously

The feet which walked to school were pierced through bullets
The hearts full of ambitions were devastated into pieces
The bodies were dragged through every inch of the way

Showers were taken with the blood of the blooming flowers
While the hair brushed with immense love of the mothers were pulled out
The talented heads kissed by the dreaming mothers were cut off pitilessly

Every single petal of the blooming flower was torn apart
Were torn apart by the piercing nails in the bombs
The sparkling garden has been washed by the bloody rain

Mothers ran through every inch of the way
Ran through every inch of the way with naked heads and barefooted
Running around with flooded eyes and a begging cry

Even the un blossomed flowers were slaughtered to death
Hopeful flowers reacting in defense were shot in both the eyes to death
Every inch of the way was flooded with the nectar of blooming flowers

The hope of the mothers have been taken away
They will setup the lunch boxes but for whom?
They will brush the lovely hair but whose?

They will wash clothes but for whom?
They will cook tasty dishes but for whom?
They will wait in evening but for whom?

They will panic but for whom?
Whose little bundle of wishes will they fulfill now?
Whose little innocent questions will they answer now?

Whose talented head will they pat and kiss on now?
Whose jokes and little conversations will they laugh upon now?
Oceans have been flooded with every single drop of this blood

These drops will flow forever and EVER now
These petals will stay in our books forever
This blood will flow within us forever

This brutality has to end !
The revenge will be taken
SOON ………REAL SOON..

Family Feast; Vanilla Cupcakes

Today I tried this super awesome cupcake recipe. It’s so easy to make as well as to eat :p

image

This is literally made for beginners like me and those of you who have never tried baking for fun. So, here you go for the simplest and perfect recipe of vanilla cupcakes. Yummm!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
3 medium eggs, at room temp
2/3 cup OR 155 gm sugar
6 ounces OR 12 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk

Method:

Before you start to do anything. Lets start the oven on 200°C or ( 400°F )

You need to take two medium bowls. In the first one add the dry ingredients; flour, salt and baking powder. Now wisk it to combine them up. As I find it way more easier than going for a dusting method.

In the other bowl, add the eggs. If you’re available with the refrigerated eggs due to which they are cold enough, no problem at all. Just take a small bowl and add the hot water from your geezer (make it sure that it’s not too hot or boiling: else it will cook the eggs). Beat them for 30 seconds and add sugar, again beat them gradually from lowest of your beater’s speed to the highest. While beating them for 2 minutes add the butter and vanilla essence along. Still beat and beat for another 2 minutes.

Hope you’re done with beating 🙂

now! It’s time to add the dry ingredients which you put aside before.Add them little by little.Pour milk if the consistency reduces to a dough type texture. The real consistency you need is a creamy one. Don’t forget to beat it well for a minute.

When you were doing this just call you younger siblings to do the tray set up. Grease the paper cases, and put them in the cupcake tray and add the batter to the half. Because it will need enough space to rise.

image

This is how they looked like; while baking in the oven for 5 minutes.

You’ll get it completely done by almost 15 to 20 minutes!

Happy Baking this Eid!
